Eric Jauniaux graduated as a medical doctor in 1986 and earned a PhD on placental development and physiology at the Universite Libre de Bruxelles in 2012. He is currently a Professor in Obstetrics and Fetal Medicine, EGA Institute for Women Health at University College London. He has worked for over... read more30 years on placental and fetal development and on the diagnosis and management of placental related-complications of pregnancy. His work on the establishment of the placental circulations in early pregnancy, on the role of oxygen in normal and abnormal placental development, and on the functions of the chorionic cavity and secondary yolk sac has enabled a better understanding of the mechanisms associated with miscarriages, the transfer pathways between the mother and her developing fetus and on the pathophysiology of placental cord anomalies.
