Biography

Stefanie Schreiber attended the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg and obtained her Doctorate to “Dr. med.” in 2007. She was Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Southampton, UK and the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute of UC Berkeley, California, USA. She earned her Venia Legendi in Neurology (Habilitation to "Dr. med. habil.") in... read more2014 and received an Extraordinary Professorship at the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg in 2018. She now practices as senior physician in the Department of Neurology at the University Hospital of Magdeburg as well as at the University Hospital of Düsseldorf and currently heads the Working Group Mixed cerebral pathologies and cognitive aging at the Magdeburg site of the German Centre for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE). She possesses expertise in cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD), hypertensive arteriopathy (HA) and cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA). Her special interest lays in understanding the grounds of brain small vessel wall damage, neuro- and systemic inflammation, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow dynamics, extracellular matrix remodelling, and synaptic plasticity, and how they interact in CSVD. The ultimate aim of her work is to support an optimised and patient-centred prevention and the development of new targeted therapies.
