Biography

Dr. Garside completed her Ph.D. at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada) with Prof. Pamela Hoodless where she investigated the role of SOX9 during early mouse heart valve development using genomic technologies. Following her Ph.D., she relocated to Australia and joined Prof. Edwina McGlinn at Monash University as a... read morepostdoctoral fellow where she examined the role of the Hox genes in spinocerebellar neuron formation and axis elongation in the mouse embryo using genomics and 3D imaging. In mid 2021, Dr. Garside joined Prof. Kelly Smith’s group at the University of Melbourne to work on understanding the relationship between the matrix and fate of the valve mesenchyme during embryonic heart development using mouse models, multi-omic technologies, and imaging. In late 2022, Dr. Garside was awarded the ARC DECRA Fellowship (commenced in March 2023) to continue her research on this novel and exciting project.
