Biography

Ian Coombs is a research scientist working in the department of Neuroscience, Physiology and Pharmacology at UCL. His work endeavours to understand the function of AMPA receptors, glutamate-gated ion channels that produce the majority of fast excitatory signalling in the brain. Ian has over 20 years’ experience of electrophysiological/molecular biology... read morestudies using both cultured cell lines and neurons. His main work over the last 15 years has helped to dissect the pharmacology and biophysics of AMPARs and their auxiliary subunits. His work is currently focussed on characterizing the effect of disease-associated de novo variants in the GRIA genes, identifying precision therapies based on his findings and performing basic characterization of potential gene therapies.
