Biography

Monika Winter (Oláhová) is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at Northumbria University, UK. Her PhD studies focused on stress-sensing and ageing signalling pathways in C. elegans and she received her PhD from Newcastle University, UK in 2009. Following her Research Fellowship studies at the... read moreUniversity of Southern California, USA, she joined the Wellcome Centre for Mitochondrial Research in Newcastle, UK in 2012 as a postdoctoral research associate. Her research used a variety of molecular and biochemical approaches to characterise novel mitochondrial disease-associated genes identified by next generation sequencing technologies. Her current research at Northumbria University focuses on the use of iPSC-based disease models and genome-wide CRISPR screening to uncover key mechanistic elements underpinning the pathogenesis of mitochondrial disorders.
