Joan-Lluis Vives Corrons MD, PhD, is Emeritus Professor at the University of Barcelona and the past head of Haematology Department at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona (Catalonia) . He has more than 30 years of experience in clinical haematology, laboratory management, and coordination of External Quality Assessment Schemes (EQAS) for haematology. Mainly activities have been focused on diagnosis, physiopathology, molecular mechanisms, epidemiology and genetics of hereditary haemolytic anaemias (HHA) due red blood cell (RBC) and erythropoietic defects. Research activity has been focused on hereditary RBC membrane defects, erythroenzymopathies, haemoglobinopathies, and bone marrow erythropoietic failure due to congenital dyserythropoietic anaemias (CDA) and myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). Since 2017 Prof. Vives Corrons is a member of Independent Advisory Board of the European Reference Network (ERN) for Rare Haematological Disorders (EuroBloodNet).
