Biography

Dr. Phil Hart, MD, is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Dr. Hart has interests in the themes of nutrition and metabolism in pancreatic disorders. This includes diabetes mellitus secondary to pancreatic disorders (aka, pancreatogenic or type 3c diabetes), exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, nutritional assessments and therapy, and osteoporosis (secondary to chronic pancreatitis). An overlapping area of keen interest is the early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, which relates specifically to the study of new onset diabetes and other patient scenarios at high risk for developing pancreatic cancer. Lastly, he maintains an active interest in the management of pancreatic disorders, particularly autoimmune pancreatitis.

Dr. Hart is an NIH-funded investigator as a multi-PI for both the Consortium for the Study of Chronic Pancreatitis, Diabetes, and Pancreatic Cancer (CPDPC) and Type 1 Diabetes after Acute Pancreatitis Consortium (T1DAPC), and serves in multiple roles as co-chair for the Type 3cDM Working Group (CPDPC), Publications Committee (CPDPC), Clinical Trials Group (CPDPC), and Protocol Committee (T1DAPC). Additionally, he has been involved in the development and execution of clinical trials in the is actively involved with leading and developing clinical trials in chronic pancreatitis and COVID-19.
