Biography

Karen E. Sears earned her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago’s Committee on Evolutionary Biology in 2003 and joined the faculty of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2007. In 2017, she moved to UCLA to become Chair of the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and a Professor... read morein the Departments of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology. Her primary research goals are to determine the roles of the process of development in the generation of evolutionary variation in mammalian anatomy, physiology, and aging. To achieve these goals, her lab works on many non-model and model mammalian species, including bats, deer, horses, mice, opossums, and pigs.
