Biography

Dr. De Maeyer read Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry at Oxford (2008-2012) but moved into immunology for his PhD studies at UCL. There he worked on the onset and resolution of acute inflammatory responses in young and older people by using models of tissue-damage driven dermal inflammation. This work mainly focused... read moreon the cells of the innate immune system and how they interact to orchestrate inflammation. Upon completion of his PhD in 2017, he switched to work on the adaptive immune system, specifically T cells, to understand why T cells in older people act and behave differently to those in young people and what this means in the context of immunopathology and susceptibility of older people to infection.
