He is Director of the eTourism Lab and Deputy Director of the International Centre for Tourism and Hospitality Research, at Bournemouth University Business School in England, and is the Editor in Chief of the most established Journal in Tourism: Tourism Review, an SSCI Journal in its 77th volume, as well as the Editor in Chief of the Encyclopedia of Tourism Management and Marketing.
Professor Buhalis has written and co-edited more than 25 books and 300 scientific articles. His research is referenced widely, and he was ranked in the Top 30 Business and Management Scientists in the world by Research.com. The AD Scientific Index 2022 ranked Professor Buhalis on the top 0.43% for the last five years citations and the 0.63% of all citations.

His research pioneers smart and ambient intelligence tourism with a particular focus on innovation, entrepreneurship and destination ecosystems management.
