D. Allan Butterfield received his PhD in chemistry from Duke University, where he took a NIH Postdoctoral Fellowship in Neurosciences. In 1975 he joined the faculty of Chemistry at the University of Kentucky, rising to the rank of Full Professor in 1983. Professor Butterfield has published over 400 refereed scientific... read morepapers and 4 books. He received a Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Mentoring from President Clinton at the White House, and an Honorary Doctor of Science Degree from his undergraduate alma mater, the University of Maine. Professor Butterfield's research interests center around oxidative stress in Alzheimer's disease and other age-related neurodegenerative disorders and the use of redox proteomics to identify oxidatively modified brain proteins.
