Biography

Simon Haroutounian is an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Washington University School of Medicine, and the Chief of Clinical Research at the Washington University Pain Center. Dr. Haroutounian has obtained in PhD at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, has completed a Fulbright doctoral fellowship in pain outcomes research at University... read moreof Utah (2008-2009), and a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical pain research at the Danish Pain Research Center in Aarhus, Denmark (2011-2013). Dr Haroutounian is a faculty member in the Department of Anesthesiology at Washington University since 2014, and his group is interested in understanding clinically-relevant mechanisms of neuropathic pain, and individual predictors of pain development (e.g. after surgery, chemotherapy) and response to treatment. Dr. Haroutounian is a Clinical Pharmacist by training (BSc.Pharm, MSc.Clin.Pharm); he currently practices as a Pharmacist in a multidisciplinary team at Washington University Pain Center helping patients optimize their medications. He is also Pharmacology course director at the Washington University School of Medicine MD program.
