Biography

Michael (Mike) Rathbone, PhD, is Founder and Managing Director of ULTI Pharmaceuticals, a veterinary pharmaceutical company based in New Zealand, which innovates intravaginal and intraruminal products for farmed animals. Dr. Rathbone obtained his undergraduate degree in Pharmacy at Leicester Polytechnic, UK (1980), and PhD in Pharmaceutics from the University of Aston, Birmingham, UK (1986). He has innovated many novel drug delivery systems, several of which have been registered on the New Zealand, Australian and United States markets.

Dr. Rathbone’s research interests are in the area of systemic drug delivery via mucosal sites, the development of modified release drug delivery systems and controlled release veterinary drug delivery. He has served on the Board of Governors, Board of Scientific Advisors and as an ad hoc member of the Board of Directors of the Controlled Release Society. Dr. Rathbone was awarded The CRS Distinguished Service Award in 2007 and was inducted as a Fellow of the Controlled Release Society in 2010.
