Biography

Konstanze Winklhofer studied pharmacology at the University of Regensburg and then medicine at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich. After clinical training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, USA, in Zurich and Munich, she obtained her MD/PhD in the group of Prof. Regine Heilbronn at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry. Ulrich Hartl and then moved to the Adolf-Butenandt-Institute at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich where she is an independent group leader. Dr. Winklhofer's research focuses on the function of Parkinson's disease associated genes, signaling pathways implicated in neuronal survival and cell death, and the role of cellular quality control systems in neurodegenerative diseases.
