Biography

Claude Bouchard is George A. Bray Jr. Chair in Nutrition and Executive Director of the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge. His research interest focuses on the genetics of obesity and some of the morbidities associated with obesity, including type 2 diabetes and hypertension. He is also studying the... read morerole of genetic variation in the adaptation to regular physical activity in terms of cardiorespiratory endurance and changes in cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. His research benefits from several cohorts of families and relies on physiological, metabolic and genomic technologies. Dr. Bouchard has been an influential leader in and president of both the IASO and NAASO. He received his PhD from the University of Texas at Austin in 1977 studying population genetics.
