Biography

Dr. Huinan Liu currently is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Bioengineering, the interdisciplinary Materials Science and Engineering Program, and the Stem Cell Center at the University of California at Riverside (UCR). She received her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Brown University in 2008 and her M.S. and B.S.... read morein Materials Science and Engineering from Purdue University and the University of Science and Technology in Beijing. In 2008-2009, she worked as a senior scientist and principal investigator for biomedical research at NanoMech, an innovation-based company, to translate nanomaterials to clinically viable products that benefit the people in need. In 2009-2010, she worked as a research assistant professor at the NSF sponsored Engineering Research Center for Revolutionizing Metallic Biomaterials (ERC-RMB) at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research involves design, fabrication, and evaluation of novel biomaterials for guided tissue regeneration and controlled drug delivery. Of particular interest is to understand cell-material and tissue-material interactions in 2D and 3D and to develop better biodegradable materials (i.e., biodegradable metals, polymer, nanophase ceramic, polymer/ceramic nanocomposites) for tissue repair and medical implant applications. She has provided 51 journal articles, 30 conference proceeding papers, 3 books, 10 invited book chapters, 40 invited talks, and 111 conference presentations and abstracts.
