Tom Evans is the CEO at Aeras. He previously served as Chief Scientific Officer where he led all research and development (R&D) and medical activities, including vaccine discovery, vaccine assessment and clinical development. Prior to joining Aeras, Dr. Evans was Vice President and Head of Translational Sciences, Asia at Novartis... read moreInstitutes for BioMedical Research in Shanghai, China. Dr. Evans also served as Novartis Vice President and Global Head of Infectious Diseases Research and Translational Medicine from 2005 to 2008. He came to Novartis from Vical Inc., where he was Vice President, Infectious Diseases Clinical Research. Prior to that, Dr. Evans was Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Infectious Diseases Division at the University of California, Davis. Dr. Evans has made fundamental contributions to the understanding of immunology and to the development and clinical testing of HIV vaccines. Dr. Evans is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases and certified in Tropical Medicine. He is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and the American Association of Microbiology, and has served as a reviewer for several leading scientific journals. He has been the Principal Investigator or study chair for numerous investigator-sponsored and industry-sponsored clinical trials, and co-investigator on many NIH-funded grants, including vaccines for cytomegalovirus, hepatitis B, influenza, and HIV.
