Biography

Dr. Amiji is currently the Distinguished Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Co-Director of Northeastern University Nanomedicine Education and Research Consortium (NERC) at Northeastern University in Boston, MA. Dr. Amiji received the BS degree in Pharmacy from Northeastern University in 1988 and a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Purdue University in 1992. His research is focused on development of biocompatible materials from natural and synthetic polymers, target-specific drug and gene delivery systems for cancer and infectious diseases, and nanotechnology applications for medical diagnosis, imaging, and therapy. His research has received over $15 million in sustained funding from the NIH, NSF, private foundations, and corporations. Dr. Amiji teaches in the professional pharmacy program and in the graduate programs of Pharmaceutical Science, Biotechnology, and Nanomedicine. He has published four books and over 200 book chapters, peer-reviewed articles, and conference proceedings. He has received a number of awards including the NSTI Award for Outstanding Contributions towards the Advancement of Nanotechnology, Microtechnology, and Biotechnology in 2006, the AAPS Meritorious Manuscript Award and AAPS Fellowship in 2007, as well as the CRS Nagai Award in 2012.
