Dr. Mattias Jakobsson received his PhD in Genetics from Lund University, Sweden in 2005. Dr. Jakobsson has a broad interest in population genetics and human evolution. His lab uses computational approaches for deciphering complex patterns of large-scale human genomic variation from both modern-day and ancient humans in order to understand human evolutionary history. The lab focus on interrogating long-standing questions in human evolution, including the colonization and migration in Stone Age Eurasia and the population history of sub-Saharan Africans, and Dr. Jakobsson team has recently published a series of papers that push the emergence of modern humans further back in time. Dr. Jakobsson is a Wallenberg Scholar, an ERC grantee, and have received the Tage Erlander prize and the Göran Gustafsson prize from the Royal Academy of Sweden.
