Biography

Dr. Fisher received undergraduate degrees in Biology and Chemistry at Swarthmore College and Cello at the Curtis Institute of Music. He obtained his MD from Cornell Medical College and PhD from Rockefeller University, followed by clinical training in Internal Medicine at Mass General Hospital, and Adult and Pediatric Oncology at... read moreDana Farber Cancer Institute and Children's Hospital, Harvard Medical School. He carried out postdoctoral training with Dr. Phillip Sharp at MIT. His research career focused on the role of transcription factors in melanocyte development and melanoma, particularly the MITF transcription factor. After leading a laboratory at Dana Farber for 15 years he became Chairman of Dermatology at Massachusetts General Hospital in 2008, where he also serves as Director of the Melanoma Program at MGH Cancer Center.
