Dr. Mariah Lelos is senior research associate at the Brain Repair Group, UK, where her primary expertise is in studying the ability of stem cell therapies to alleviate non-motor, cognitive and neuropsychiatric dysfunctions that manifest in Parkinson’s and Huntington’s disease. She received her PhD at Cardiff University, UK, after investigating... read morethe effect of amyloid pathology on memory and developing mathematical models of aberrant neural system interactions in a model of Alzheimer’s disease. Her current work aims to understand the roles of nigrostriatal dopamine and corticostriatal projection pathways in cognitive function, in order to improve our understanding of the neural systems that degenerate in Parkinson’s and Huntington’s disease, and to use this to optimise the application of fetal and stem cell therapies to alleviate these functional impairments.
