Biography

Marc P. Girard is a retired professor of virology from the Pasteur Institute and University Paris Diderot, Paris, France. He mostly worked on the molecular biology of poliovirus, adenovirus, and then HIV. He was responsible for R&D activities at Pasteur Vaccins, a subsidiary of the Pasteur Institute, now part of... read moreSanofi Pasteur. He was appointed General Director of the Merieux Foundation in Lyon, France, at the demise of Dr. Charles Mérieux. He was chairman of the vaccine development program at the French Agency for Research on AIDS (ANRS) and chaired for several years the European Network for the development of an HIV vaccine, Eurovac. He also worked for many years as a consultant on vaccine R&D for the World Health Organization. His major current area of interest still is the development of a HIV vaccine.
