Schachter in collaboration with the group of Jaak Jaeken (Belgium) first described a mutation responsible for one of the Congenital Disorders of Glycosylation. Schachter has also worked on the role of glycosylation in the development of mice, worms (Caenorhabditis elegans) and fruit flies (Drosophila melanogaster).
