Gerardo R. Vasta earned his PhD degree in Biochemistry from the University of La Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1978 and his PhD degree in Zoology in 1980. His primary scientific interests include molecular aspects and evolution of self/non-self recognition mechanisms in innate immunity, host-parasite interactions, and developmental processes of vertebrates and invertebrates, with particular emphasis on protein-carbohydrate interactions. Dr. Vasta has received a number of national and international prestigious awards, including the J. William Fulbright Scholar International Award, US Department of State; John E. Fogarty Award, NIH; International Scholarship for Scientific Research, National Council of Scientific and Technological Research of Argentina, among others.
