Biography

John MacColl graduated with a Master of Arts in English Language & Literature from the University of St Andrews. He earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Librarianship & Information Studies from Robert Gordon's Institute of Technology Aberdeen, and the degree of Master of Education from the University of Aberdeen. He has... read moreworked in libraries and academic computing services in the Universities of Glasgow, Aberdeen, Abertay Dundee and Edinburgh. Before becoming University Librarian at St Andrews, he worked for three years for OCLC, a global non-profit library consortium based in the US, as European Director in the Research Division. He became University Librarian at St Andrews in February 2011. Mr. MacColl has published widely in the library and information science literature, and has led several UK-wide digital library projects. He was the founder and first editor of ARIADNE magazine. He has undertaken a number of library consultancy projects in the UK and overseas. He is an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Library & Information Professionals.
