Biography

José Esté is a Senior Researcher and head of the HIV pathogenesis group at the AIDS Research Institute, IrsiCaixa, Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol in Badalona (Barcelona), Spain. He received his B.S. degree in Biology from University of Western Ontario, a Masters degree in Biochemistry from the Venezuelan Institute of... read moreScientific Research and his PhD degree from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium. His research interests include HIV pathogenesis, antiviral drug-resistance, drug design and evaluation and the mechanisms of HIV infection and cell death. He is also participating in the clinical development of HIV entry inhibitors at the AIDS Clinic of Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol. José Esté has coauthored over 120 peer-reviewed publications and review articles, is an Editor of the journal Antiviral Research, is in the Editorial Board of Future Virology, the Open Virology Journal and is an Editorial Consultant for The Lancet. He is a member of the Board of Directors (2006-2012) of the International Society for Antiviral Research and in 2010 he received the William Prusoff Award from this society.
