Doreen Cantrell is a Wellcome Trust Principal Research Fellow in the Division of Cell Biology and Immunology in the College of Life Sciences. She has held this position since 2002 and is also now Head of the College of Life Sciences and University Vice Principal. From 1987 to 2002 she... read morewas Head of the Lymphocyte Activation Laboratory at the Cancer Research UK London Research Institute. Her research explores how antigen receptors and cytokines control the development and immune activation of T lymphocytes; key cells in the adaptive immune system. The strategy is to rigorously interrogate T cell biology at the fundamental level of biochemical signal transduction. The integration of mouse molecular genetics, cell biology and microscopy is then used to define the contribution of a particular biochemical pathway to T cell activation. She has published over 150 research papers in her career and was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and EMBO in 2000, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 2005 and a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2011. She has sat on numerous scientific committees and editorial boards and is currently Chair of the Medical Research Council's Immunology and Infections panel and the Early career fellowship panel of the Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance.
