Biography

Luis J. Jara received his MD degree from the Universidad Nacional Federico Villareal and was an Internal Medicine resident at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, School of Medicine in Lima, Peru. He became a Research Fellow at the University of South Florida and Lousiana State University under the tutelage of Dr. Luis R. Espinoza. He has practiced as a rheumatologist for more than 30 years, has been instrumental in training rheumatologists from Mexico at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and other Latin American countries. Dr. Jara was co-editor of specialty books in the past five years being the most remarkable: Endocrine Manifestations of Autoimmune Diseases with Dr. Sara Walker. He was also co-guest Editor of the Special Issue of the Journal Lupus on "Prolactin in SLE". Dr. Jara was nominated Master of the American College of Rheumatology in 2014. He currently holds the position of Director of Education and Research at the Hospital de Especialidades “Dr. Antonio Fraga Mouret”, Centro Medico Nacional La Raza. He is a Senior Researcher in the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (SNI) the Federal Institution that supports Mexican science.
