James H. Lewis, MD, FACP, FACG, AGAF, FAASLD is Professor of Medicine, Director of Hepatology and Associate GI fellowship Director in the Division of Gastroenterology, Department of Medicine, Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, DC USA. A graduate of Oberlin College and the State University of New York Downstate School of Medicine,... read morehe served a medical internship at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas, a medical residency at Kings County Hospital Center, NY and a GI fellowship at George Washington University Hospital, Washington, DC prior to joining the faculty at Georgetown University. He has been working in the field of drug-induced hepatotoxicity for over 40 years, more than half of which were spent under the mentorship of the late Hyman J. Zimmerman, MD (for which Hy’s Law of drug-induced liver injury was named). A frequent consultant to industry in the area of drug development and hepatic safety, he is a former member of the FDA GI Drugs Advisory Committee and has served as an outside expert in hepatotoxicity to a number of other FDA Advisory Committees. He is a fellow of the AGA and AASLD and a member of several DILI working groups and committees. He has contributed over 400 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, reviews and abstracts, mostly focused on various DILI topics.
