Biography

Joan Massagué is Program Chairman at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, in New York, and an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Dr. Massagué is interested in how growth factors, signaling pathways, and gene expression programs control normal cell behavior and cancer cell metastasis. He delineated the TGFb signal transduction pathway and identified genes and functions that mediate metastasis. He is member of the National Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Medicine, and the European Molecular Biology Organization.
