Biography

James McClelland is a Professor in the Department of Psychology and Director of the Center for Mind, Brain, Computation and Technology at Stanford University, USA. He received his PhD in cognitive psychology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1975. His research has relied on brain-inspired computational models to address a... read morebroad range of issues in perception, memory, language, learning and cognitive development. Currently, his lab focuses on mathematical cognition with the goal of understanding how mathematical intuition and insight arise from the interplay of the machinery of the mind as implemented in the brain and from experience with formal reasoning systems viewed as the products of the collective human search for understanding.
