Biography

Lynn Kern Koegel is the Clinical Director of the Autism Services at the University of California, Santa Barbara, Koegel Autism Research and Training Center and the Director of the Broad Center for Asperger Research. She has been active in the development of programs to improve communication in children with autism,... read moreincluding the development of first words, grammatical structures, and pragmatics. In addition to her published books and articles in the area of communication and language development, she has developed and published procedures and field manuals in the area of self-management, functional analysis, and parent-professional collaboration that are widely used by families and other interventionists throughout the United States. Dr. Lynn Koegel, and her husband Dr. Robert Koegel, were the recipients of the first annual Children's Television Workshop Sesame Street Award for "Brightening the Lives of Children". In 2005 the University of California, Santa Barbara received a $2.35 million gift to expand the physical space of the Center, which was renamed the Koegel Autism Center in recognition of the Koegel's work on behalf of children with autism. In 2007, the Koegels were awarded a gift from the Eli and Edythe L. Broad Foundation to establish a new center of excellence for Asperger Research. The Center is conducting research and intervention with the purpose of developing a model that can be disseminated nationally, and is moving toward the long-term goal of becoming the largest and most comprehensive clearinghouse in the world on intervention for Asperger's Syndrome.
