Dr. McGrath’s current research is on chronic pain in children, especially the sex- and age-related factors that may make children more vulnerable for developing chronic pain or for prolonging disability. She participates in ongoing, collaborative studies focusing on the bio/psycho/social factors associated with certain chronic pain conditions that differentially affect females. She and her fellow researchers use psychophysical measurement and brain imaging technology to evaluate the neural mechanisms underlying chronic pain and cognitive function in these pediatric pain conditions.
