Hello. I'm Mike Clayton
and I'm the founder of
Online PM Courses
both the website
and the YouTube channel.
In this talk, we're
going to look at
the PRINCE2 approach
to project management.
0:18
PRINCE2 was originally designed
for project managers who want to
lead projects that
have high levels of
accountability and
strong governance.
It was created to
serve the needs of
the UK public sector
which required
rigorous processes
and a high level of
confidence in the accountability
of its projects to the public.
As a result, PRINCE2 is
a robust project
management methodology
that places a strong emphasis
on control and governance.
Over the many years that
it has been in operation,
it has been developed
and grown to make
it not only robust
but highly efficient.
The current manual is
the seventh edition
and it was released in
autumn of 2023 as
an incremental change on
the previous edition.
PRINCE2 represents three things.
First, it's a
valuable methodology
with a lot to learn from.
Whether or not you implement it
fully or simply adopt
some of the good ideas,
there is a lot in there for
experienced project managers and
new project managers
to learn from.
Secondly, it's also the basis of
two tiers of PRINCE2
certification.
We'll look at them
a bit more later,
but these are the foundation
and practitioner levels.
Finally, and perhaps most
importantly if you're
based in the UK,
the PRINCE2 methodology is
mandatory if you are working on
publicly funded projects in
central or local government
or in the health service.
This makes PRINCE2 important for
many UK project managers and
the PRINCE2 handbook
a valuable reading.
It's important for me
to emphasise that what
follows is my interpretation
of the PRINCE2 framework.
I intended to give you
a general understanding
of PRINCE2 and this is
not suitable as a preparation
for a PRINCE2
certification examination.
The PRINCE2 handbook defines
