Welcome to this talk about
the importance of AI
on pharmaceutical supply
chain management.
My name is Antonio Pesqueira,
and for the last 15 years
I have been working with
Healthcare and Life
Sciences companies
to navigate the intersection of
operations, technology,
and strategy.
Currently, I'm a researcher
at ISCTE University of Lisbon
in Portugal and also working
as a consultant for a
company called DCOPI.
Our core theme for today is
mainly about AI that isn't
just a new set of tools.
It's really a potential
future architecture
that powers a more adaptive,
resilient, and
intelligent enterprise
through a framework that we
call dynamic capabilities.

To guide our discussions,
we are going to follow a
clear and logical path.
We will begin by
setting the stage,
exploring the current
AI landscape,
and then also understand
why this conversation
is so important.
And then we are going to address
the essential
compliance guardrails
like good practices and
also good distribution practices
that are so fundamental
in pharmaceuticals
connected with supply chains.
Because in our industry,
the innovation must be built
on a foundation of
trust and safety.
And from there, we
are going to dive
more into the heart of
our strategic framework,
that is the dynamic
capabilities and
the connection to integrated
business planning.
Not only this, we
are going to map out
the different waves
of AI capabilities
and then start to see
how they come to life
through specific
therapeutical areas examples.
Then we are going
to look as well
at the enabling technology
of control towers,
leveraging AI, of course,
and then advanced tools
like agent-based
modeling as well.
Each of the sections, as we
can see from this slide,
is going to be focusing
on giving us hints
for the future and making us
think about the
future possibilities
and the options that
we can all define
to allow our supply chains
to be more resilient,
more agile, and more
consistent as well
in terms of the definition
of specific processes.
For example, end-to-end
control towers
and the visibility can
really involve discussing
how a distributed ledger,
through blockchain,
provides visibility into
the supplier networks.
Then when we start touching
on dynamic capabilities,
then we can start noting that
the blockchain is able to
grant those new capabilities
that can augment agility.
Here, AI, along with
other technologies,
can really change the game
for each of these areas
because it brings
more sophistication
and capacity in terms of
analyzing large datasets.
