As we haven't met yet, I'll first tell you a little about my background. I was born in the UK where I completed my education through to graduating with my PhD at Cranfield School of Management in 2004. Before starting my PhD, however, I worked in HR roles for a number of years after completing my undergraduate degree in Dutch and French. I'm now an associate professor of Human Resource Management at the Pennsylvania State University in USA and Founder and Director of the Center for International Human Resource Studies there. I'm also affiliated to Tilburg University in the Netherlands, where I worked for a number of years after completing my PhD. To date, I have some 15 years experience working in academia, dedicating much of this time to research and teaching on topics related to strategic human resource management, particularly with an international or global dimension. The major research projects that I have been involved in to date are focused on the role of the HR function in both domestic and global operations and on how multinational corporations perform the global local balancing act related to international HRM. Hence my interest in global talent management as it incorporates both the notion of the balancing act and the role of the HR function as I'll discuss.

This presentation will address three core questions related to global talent management. Question one, what opportunities and challenges does global talent management create for multinational corporations and how are MNCs handling these currently? Question two, what is the role of the Corporate HR function in global talent management. Question three, what are the best principles of global talent management that MNCs might follow? I'll address these questions to demonstrate how MNCs might develop more effective global talent management programs drawing from multiple sources of research and practice. I'll introduce you to a couple of frameworks that I have developed together with colleagues in our research projects in conjunction with high-performing multinational corporations.
