Hello, everyone. My
name is Harri Laihonen,
and I'm a Professor of
Health and Social Management
at the University
of Eastern Finland.
In this talk, I will discuss
the various roles of
knowledge management in
sustainability management.
0:16
My background is in
knowledge management,
which I have studied
for the past 20 years
in various contexts.
During this time, I
have explored how
knowledge management can
drive organizational renewal,
improve efficiency and support
decision-making processes
across different sectors.
I'm particularly interested in
knowledge management
within the public sector,
as I believe that the
public sector plays
a crucial role in addressing
major societal issues.
Public sector
organizations are often at
the forefront of
tackling challenges,
such as healthcare delivery,
environmental protection,
and social equity.
Despite its significant
societal role,
literature reviews
have highlighted
that knowledge management in
the public sector has
received much less attention
in research literature
compared to
its applications in
the business world.
In my recent research,
I have concentrated on the
role and significance of
knowledge management
in enhancing
the effectiveness of health
and social services,
as well as on issues related
to sustainability management
in local governments.
These issues are not
just about improving
the efficiency and
competitiveness
of individual organizations,
but more broadly about building
societal capacity and
creating public value.
By leveraging
knowledge management,
public sector organizations
can enhance their ability
to respond to complex
challenges and
deliver high-quality
services to citizens.
