Let's talk first about why connecting business strategy and knowledge management is important. Business strategy sets the main firm's goals in the medium and long term. To achieve the goals, knowledge is necessary, thus individual knowledge that is people's expertise and skills in particular domains, and organizational knowledge that is the knowledge embedded in organizational processes and routines. Therefore, business strategy conditions, firm's knowledge needs, that is, the areas of fields where acquiring or generating knowledge is necessary, and also individual knowledge needs, that is, the expertise of skills people working in the company have to acquire.
