Biography

Michael Chance attended the University of East Anglia (Norwich, U.K.) between 1963 and 1970 and was awarded the degree of PhD in 1973. Subsequently, he spent 40 years working in the Department of Parasitolgy at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine His main area of research was parasitic protozoa principally... read morePlasmodium and Leishmania . He contributed new methods to identify different species of Leishmania which are all morphologically identical. In addition he developed methods of immunodiagnosis that could be used at the point of care. The third main area of research was the experimental chemotherapy of leishmaniasis in which he made significant contributions to the use of liposome entrapped drugs as a method of targeting leishmania parasites in mammalian hosts.
