Martin Bootman undertook his PhD studies in the Department of Zoology, University of Cambridge, under the supervision of Professor Sir Michael Berridge, FRS. He was subsequently awarded research fellowships by Christ's College, Cambridge, and The Royal Society. Martin is currently a Reader in Biomedicine at The Open University, and a Senior Research Fellow at Babraham Institute.
