Biography

L. Nathan Tumey is an assistant professor of medicinal chemistry at Binghamton University School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science. Dr. Tumey has over 15 years of experience in academic and industrial drug discovery that spans both large pharma and small biotechnology companies. His research group focuses on the development of... read morenew antibody-drug-conjugate (ADC) technology, particularly as it applies to the treatment of autoimmune disorders. Prior to joining Binghamton University, Dr. Tumey led a multidisciplinary team of scientists at Pfizer who were tasked with developing new conjugation and linker technology for up-and-coming ADC programs. Research in Dr. Tumey's lab has led to new methods for monitoring and optimizing ADC stability, new chemical release strategies for therapeutically active payloads and better understanding of factors that drive ADC PK. This work has been widely recognized in the ADC community. For example, his work describing efforts to mitigate the rapid metabolism of a tubulysin ADC was selected as the cover article for the November 2016 issue of ACS Medicinal Chemistry Letters. Dr. Tumey is an author of more than 30 publications and is a co-inventor of more than 13 patent applications and has been an invited speaker at several national and international scientific meetings. Dr. Tumey's expertise includes bioconjugation, bioanalytical chemistry, drug metabolism, small molecule synthesis, and drug-design.
