Daniel is Professor of Professions and Organization at the University of Newcastle, a director of the Professions Work and Organization Research Group, and a founding editor of the Journal of Professions and Organization. Daniel is also an academic fellow of the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes.

His research focuses on professions and knowledge workers, their work, management and organization. His research has been published in leading journals, including Organization Studies, Sociology, Human Relations, The Journal of Management Studies and The Journal of Economic Geography. Daniel is currently co-editing the Oxford Handbook of Professional Services Firms to be published in 2015 by the Oxford University Press.
