Dr. Jonathan Day is Professor Emeritus of Medical Entomology at the University of Florida and is a national expert on controlling mosquitoes and other blood-feeding arthropod disease vectors. Since 1983 he has worked at the Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory in Vero Beach, which is part of the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. In collaboration with other researchers throughout Florida and the United States, Prof. Day has developed an effective system for predicting outbreaks of mosquito-borne diseases. He works closely with state and national mosquito control districts and other public and private groups to disseminate the information, and posts maps on his laboratory's website that are updated during the transmission season. He also studies mosquito attractants and repellents, including electronic bug zappers. Prof. Day is a recipient of the Honor Award for Excellence from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the agency's highest honor.
