This series of talks examines the economic risks from the occurrence of disasters; events like the 2017 Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rick, the 2011 East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, or wildfires and droughts. The talks focus on measuring these events, assessing their impact, understanding the determinants of these impacts, and... read moreassessing the risk reduction and transfer tools and processes that can ameliorate these.

We will look at the differences in disaster impact over time, ways to measure vulnerability to disasters, how to measure the level and intensity of hazards, recovery from disasters on a national and organizational scale, business opportunities in managing disaster risks and recovering from disasters including the role of disaster insurance in developing and developed economies.
