Edward G. Conture, Professor Emeritus, Vanderbilt University, received his B.S. from Emerson College, his M.A. from Northwestern University and his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. Conture has (co)authored over 135 peer-reviewed papers, book chapters and books and given over 300 professional/scholarly presentations to (inter)national audiences. Earlier, he researched speech-language contributions to stuttering from motoric to linguistic perspectives; more recently he researched emotional contributions to childhood stuttering from behavioral to psychophysiological perspectives.
Among Conture’s various services to his field, he was Editor (2004-2007), Journal of Fluency Disorders (Official Journal of the International Fluency Association) as well as Member (2004-2008), Advisory Council, NIH’s National Institute of Deafness and Other Communication Disorders. Recipient of several awards for his clinical/scholarly contributions, Conture received the 2003 Malcolm Fraser Award, Stuttering Foundation of America; 2005 Honors, National Student Speech-Hearing-Language Association; 2005 Frank R. Kleffner Clinical Career Award, American Speech and Hearing Foundation; 2007, Honors of the Association, American Speech-Language-Hearing Association; and 2011, Grantee, Fulbright Senior Specialist.
He lives in Asheville, North Carolina, with his wife Patricia and yellow Labrador retriever, where he pursues his interests in books, cooking, herbs, hiking, soccer and writing.
