AIN D. KEENAN, B.Sc. (Hons.), M.M.Ed., Ph.D. F.A.S. N.T.F., is Professor of Anatomical Education within the School of Medicine at Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. Iain is a developmental biologist by training, having completed a PhD at the University of York, UK, and postdoctoral research fellowships at the universities... read moreof Dundee, St Andrews, and Newcastle, UK (2004-2012). During this time, Iain investigated the regulation of gene expression in development, growth, and cancer. Since 2012, Iain has taught anatomical sciences, including gross anatomy, histology, embryology, and reproductive medicine, for undergraduate and postgraduate medical, healthcare, and medical sciences students at Newcastle University. Iain is Deputy Director of the Newcastle University Anatomy unit, leads education research within the Faculty of Medical Sciences and the School of Medicine at Newcastle University, co-ordinates the Newcastle University PhD in Clinical and Medical Sciences Education, and leads a research programme investigating the design and investigation of three-dimensional digital visualisation and art-based learning approaches in anatomical sciences education. Iain has published many impactful outputs from this research programme in esteemed journals and books in the field of anatomical education. Iain is currently Honorary Secretary of the Trans-European Pedagogic Anatomy Research Group (TEPARG) and is lead editor of the TEPARG book series ‘International Anatomical Education’. Iain gained a Master of Medical Education from Newcastle University (2016) and has been awarded an Advance H.E. National Teaching Fellowship (2020) and Fellowship of the Anatomical Society (2021).
