Dr. Carobene graduated in Biology and subsequently specialized in Clinical Biochemistry at the University of Milan in 2004. In 2021, she also passed the National Scientific Qualification for Full Professor in Clinical Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Throughout her career, Dr. Carobene has focused on understanding the complexities of clinical laboratory medicine, with particular emphasis on quality control, biological variability, reference interval studies, and the integration of artificial intelligence to enhance diagnostic processes.

She is an active member of the scientific community, holding key positions such as being on the Executive Board of the Italian Society of Clinical Biochemistry and Clinical Molecular Biology (SIBioC) and serving as an expert and consultant in the Working Group on Artificial Intelligence under the European Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (EFLM). Her commitment to the field also extends internationally, where she is a member of the Task Force on Global Laboratory Quality (TF-GLQ) with the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC). Additionally, she took over a year of sabbatical leave to work at a mission hospital in Ethiopia, where she successfully established a clinical laboratory from the ground up.

Her research contributions are widely recognized, with over 130 peer-reviewed publications in leading international journals. Dr. Carobene’s involvement in the European Biological Variation Study (EuBIVAS) has been particularly impactful, contributing valuable data to enhance the reliability of laboratory measurements across Europe. She has received numerous awards for her exceptional research, including the EFLM and multiple SIBioC Best Paper and Poster Awards. In 2024, she received recognition from SIBioC for her international contributions to laboratory medicine. She also serves as the national representative for SIBioC in the EFLM.

In addition to her research and editorial work, Dr. Carobene is dedicated to educating future laboratory professionals. She teaches Laboratory Medicine at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan, sharing her expertise and passion for delivering high-quality, evidence-based laboratory practices.
