Tony Hunter received his PhD from the University of Cambridge, and did his postdoctoral training in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Cambridge and the Salk Institute before taking up a faculty position at the Salk Institute. He is also an Adjunct Professor in the Division of Biological Sciences at the University of California at San Diego. Dr. Hunter's interests are in the mechanisms of signal transduction by tyrosine kinases and the pathways activated downstream of these tyrosine kinases that regulate cell growth, cell migration and differentiation. His group also studies cyclin-dependent protein kinases and other protein kinases that regulate progression through the cell cycle and the response to DNA damage, and how protein ubiquitination is used as a means of regulating signaling pathways and the cell cycle.
