Biography

Werner Kempf, MD, is a dermatologist and dermatopathologist with training in surgical pathology. His major focus and expertise over the last two to three decades is on cutaneous lymphoid neoplasms and inflammatory, esp. infectious skin diseases. After a post-doctoral fellowship in the Division of Hematopathology and Virology of the Beth... read moreIsrael Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston MA (USA), his research activities focused on viral oncogenesis, diagnostic and prognostic markers in cutaneous lymphomas, photodynamic therapy as well as diagnosis and treatment of skin neoplasms in organ transplant recipients. Dr. Kempf is co-director and founder of the dermatopathology laboratory Kempf und Pfaltz, Histologische Diagnostik in Zurich, Switzerland as well as associate professor and scientific collaborator of the Dept. Dermatology, University Hospital Zurich, Switzerland. He has contributed on cutaneous lymphomas for the WHO monographs on the classification of hematopoietic and lymphoid tumors and skin tumors since 2004. His academic activities have resulted in more than 360 publications and 50 book chapters. He is editor and co-editor on a book on dermatopathology and a book on cutaneous lymphomas. His main work in the field of cutaneous lymphomas focuses on the classification of cutaneous lymphomas, diagnostic markers and the impact of clinico-pathologic correlation for the diagnosis of primary cutaneous lymphomas.
