Dr. Ajjampur completed her MBBS and MD and joined the Wellcome Trust Research Laboratory, Christian Medical College, Vellore in southern India in 2005. She carried out doctoral research (jointly at CMC, Vellore and Tufts Medical Center, Boston) and post-doctoral research at National University of Singapore and set up an independent,... read moremulti-disciplinary research group focused on the epidemiology, impact and prevention of endemic parasitic and bacterial infections, such as Cryptosporidium, Giardia, Campylobacter and soil transmitted helminths. Her group carries out translational studies in geospatially mapped and censused populations combined with high throughput laboratory testing. She has obtained an NIH Fogarty ‘Emerging Global Leader Award’, leads one of seven NIH funded Tropical Medicine Research Centers and has obtained recognition as a ICMR Center of Excellence for work on helminthic infections.
